-
Description
-
This photo of Willis Winn was taken by Russell Lee as part of the Federal Writers Project in April 1939, in Marshall, Texas. He is holding the horn used to call slaves to work every day, and claimed to be 116 years old when the photo was taken. He was born in Louisiana, a slave of Bob Winn, who Willis said taught him from his youth that his birthday was March 10, 1822. [Photo colorized by Tom Marshall in 2020].
